Enveiled hit Winnipeg's Park Theatre on January 25th for a night of hardcore and metal in celebration of Enveiled's newly-released album Death Awaits All. Numerous events happened on the same night, including a big metal show at The Burton Cummings Theatre, and it was great to see the Winnipeg scene come together for a night of local metal.

The first band on the bill was Godly Beings, covering death metal pioneers Obituary. Godly Beings, named after the Slowly We Rot track, is a supergroup of members of numerous local metal bands, including Ramskull and Inhumed. They covered tracks from numerous classic Obituary albums, including Inked in Blood and Slowly We Rot, which had the pit spinning and headbanging as they chugged on each riff, from the thrashy solos to the more downtempo and groovy passages. They ended their set with a surprise Six Feet Under cover, in which vocalist Mike Mason (Inhumed) jumped into the pit with the microphone and did his best tribute to Chris Barnes.

Godly Beings set the bar high for the next band, Mad Lack, who travelled from The Pas to deliver their self-proclaimed 'divorced dad metalcore.' Mad Lack plays metalcore in the vein of 2010s bands such as Counterparts and The Ghost Inside while adding a fresh twist to their hardcore-influenced riffing, with dissonance being a key factor that set them apart from the other bands on the bill. Guitarist Owen and drummer Logan are locked in tight. At the same time, vocalist Zane's stage presence and loud, unclean vocals fill in the spaces nicely, with him eventually picking up a guitar to help balance out some of the riffs with more melodies.

A highlight of the night came when Mad Lack covered Counterparts' track Love Me, with Zane jumping into the front row and passing the microphone to a handful of fans to scream the hook.

Book of Ghosts' set was energetic, memorable, and powerful, a performance that proves that Book of Ghosts excels on big stages such as The Park Theatre. With tracks such as the new "Reborn," they showcased their groovy tendencies while staying true to their melodic metalcore roots, with vocalist Gravy leading both the band and the audience. The band is extremely talented, knows how to get a crowd moving and shouting, and features members with experience in bands like Bears With Technology and Murder Capital.

A highlight of Book of Ghosts' set was Mike Mason (Inhumed/Godly Beings) joining Gravy on stage for a powerful rendition of Lamb of God's Omerta. Book of Ghosts is a must-hear for fans of 2000s metalcore and hardcore, with influences like All That Remains and Shadows Fall.

Enveiled closed the night with their distinct fusion of Middle Eastern-inspired progressive metal. Guitarist Taha and drummer Majedul bring diverse backgrounds that shape their songwriting and stage presence, including their distinctive stage outfits. Meanwhile, bassist Dakota and guitarist Blaise infuse the band's sound with their passion for progressive and groove-heavy music. Having opened for bands like Goatwhore, they 'enveiled' their new album, Death Awaits All, a nine-track showcase of hardcore riffs, intricate lead guitar work, and masterful drumming. Alongside cuts from the new album, Unveiled covered a Gojira track, igniting the crowd with cheers and air drumming, further amplifying Majedul's technical prowess and the band's high-energy performance.

Enveiled's new album, Death Awaits All, is now available on all major streaming services and Bandcamp. If you're a fan of Vitriol, Gojira, Mastodon, or Jinjer, Enveiled is a band worth checking out. Finally, a shoutout to the promoters, the venue, and the incredible energy from both the fans and the bands that made the night unforgettable.
