October means Halloween celebrations all month, right? Well, for these metal heads, it does. Headlining the event, Winnipeg's thrash metal band Phantom Killing debuted their new event, Thrashtober, on Friday, October 6, at the Bulldog Event Centre with supporting bands [4Ø4], Bloodorn, and Indigo.
In honour of their latest song, "Clown Fatality's," the Phantom Killers wore killer clown masks during the last half of their set. "Clown Fatality's" is a song from their new record Phantom Killing: Sinner's Rewards, released August 5, 2023. The rest of their set carried out pieces from their album.
Songs like:
Human candles
Burn the Witch
Alien Invasion!
Murder Monopoly
Mosh City
Masquerading Bands
Friends and Family came out to enjoy the show, moshing and headbanging. The crowd went wild when lead singer and guitarist Michael brought out a football and said, “Whoever Moshes the hardest to the next song and catches this food ball wins a prize at the merch stand.”
The crowd proceeded to go heavier than they ever were, bringing in moves like the iconic “windmill” and pushing each other around like a pinball trapped in the machine. One audience member enjoyed the set so much that he offered to buy everyone in the room drinks at the end of their set. Yeah, that didn’t happen, but we can only hope.

The other members of the band brought even more energy to the night. These members include guitarist Ryan, bassist Blaise, and drummer Tiago. Blaise keeps himself busy as a member of four other local bands: Skyraid, Bayrolls, Enveiled, and Consumed Deity. Tiago is also the drummer for Consumed Deity and his new band [4Ø4].

Nu metal band [4Ø4] hit the stage for the first time that Friday night. The band members include lead singer Nick, bassist Ziggy, guitarists Tiago and Connor, and drummer Marshall. I wouldn't have believed you if you told me this was the band's first performance. These guys have a stage presence like no other. The four musicians confidently played their set paired with headbangs, guitar shreds, crowd interactions, and teaser songs off their album in the works.

Like Phantom Killing, they also embraced the masks, but not just for Halloween. Their ski masks are a development of their distinct cybercriminal style. Their masked façade plays od Slipknot, but their overall mysterious stage presence leaves you wondering what their next move will be. It’s all a waiting game as they release more content. As the band says, “big things are coming.”
